For those who are interested I have a dream car list, not just a long list of cars that I want to own, but a strategic plan on which car I will own at certain stages of my life. For those who are curious its the Mitsubishi Evolution after I leave post secondary education, a BMW M3 after 30 as a reward to myself for becoming successful and finally an Aston Martin DBZ at 50, a second reward for early retirement, obviously this list stays updated with current models or very rarely an addition due to a very strong impression, but overall the list has stayed consistent over the years.
I realized that these are some far-fetched goals, but I rather dream big and work towards them, then aimlessly hope to land something by sheer luck. But I digress, to the purpose of this post, while doing a little research on my dream cars and the dent they would put in my wallet in the near future, I stumbled across the official BMW M3 Challenge Video Game , I immediately downloaded it as I wanted to see first hand how well the simulation was and overall was excited to pretend to drive my dream car and "practice" what I would be doing soon anyways. Needless to say, my excitement quickly turned to frustration and I quickly questioned myself whether or not I was still an M3 fan. The sheer difficulty of the game was ridiculous, I understand that the goal of BMW was the make the game as realistic as possible in order to give potential customers a taste of what driving a M3 would feel like, but a video game should also be fun, it should highlight the capabilities of the car and build a greater fan base, not turn them away because they get tired of running into walls or spending 75% of the time doing donuts in every corner.
Now, many of you might just think that I am terrible at video games, and am being unfair. But the fact is I have driven cars on a real track before, although not nearly at the capabilities of a BMW M3 (It was an old 93 Honda Civic Si Coupe, at a quarter of the power and a 10th of the price of the BMW M3) should not make it 10 times harder to drive. Overall, I believe that BMW too the wrong approach when using this game to market their product, the game should have been fun and be targeted towards potential up and coming fans, as opposed to making it extremely hard, where only spending countless hours grinding through the game in order to make it around the track without spinning out at least once, and placed in such an obscure location that no more but avid fans would find it anyways.
